BlueScope Soft Plastic Trial

BlueScope Steel is testing the replacement of small amounts of coal with waste plastics in coke ovens at their Port Kembla smelter. Having successfully completed the first phase of the trial using polyethylene bottles the company is now planning to test mixed household soft plastics. This reduces carbon emissions in coke making while providing an alternative treatment for hard-to-recycle plastics. Watch the video for more details.
